Karla Leavelle
Starting in 2002, Ms. Leavelle, along with her partners, grew Human Capital Advisors of Virginia (HCA) into a firm widely respected by DC area C-level executives. She advised companies, governments and non-profits regarding organizational and infrastructure development, risk management, performance and interpersonal communication management, succession planning and work-life balance issues.
She also has provided advice and consultation to investment firms evaluating prospective targets for acquisition or investment.
In 2013, Ms. Leavelle took a leave of absence from HCA to be Chief Operations Officer for Clarity Services, a leading credit reporting service located in Florida. She was part of the team to grow the company from $15mm to $55mm within three years resulting in the acquisition by Experian.
Upon leaving Clarity Service, Ms. Leavelle launched Human Capital Advisors, FL.LLC with one of the HCA Virginia founding members, Ted Bruccoleri..
Prior to HCA, her corporate experience included a variety of industries: consulting, financial services, retail, education, telecommunications, Internet commerce and software development.
Ms. Leavelle was Vice President of Human Resources for Network Solutions, the registry and registrar of Web site addresses. During her tenure, she was a key member of the executive team that grew the company from 150 to more than 1500 employees and then executed the biggest Internet company acquisition, at the time, -- the purchase of Network Solutions by VeriSign. She also was Vice President of Human Resources for worldweb.net, an emerging software development company where she played an integral role in a smooth transition when the company was acquired.
Ms. Leavelle has also held HR leadership positions at Bell Atlantic Video Services, the first company to bring video-on-demand into the home; Southland Corporation, the world’s largest convenience store operation; and Manchester Partners, an HR consulting services firm to Fortune 500 companies.
Ms. Leavelle has been an active member in workforce issues in Virgina and Florida, where she now resides. Until 2022, she served as a board member for ServiceSource; a leading resource for people with disabilities. She served five years as a board member and one year as the Chair for CareerSource Pinellas. Florida.. While a resident of Virgina, she served as co-chair of the Workforce Committee of the Northern Virginia Technology Council for three years and was a board member of the Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board. She also advised Fairfax County Public Schools as a member of the Professional Technical Studies Advisory Committee.
Additionally, Ms. Leavelle spent a decade as an adjunct professor in the School of Management at George Mason University. She holds an MBA from DePaul University.
